One of the first things that dermatologist Dr Andrew Waite has to do when people come to him with genital acne is to persuade them that they do not have a sexually transmitted disease (STD). "It is amazing how many people think they have a sexual and hence embarrassing disease when all that they have is genital acne," he says. "And it is partly as a result of this lack of awareness that genital acne has probably received less than its fair share of attention."
